Flowers, leaves and repeating geometric motifs appear again and again in these textiles, their stylised forms feeling surprisingly fresh centuries later. For the Lotus Mirror, this idea is reimagined as a border of hand-sewn floral motifs in naturally dyed linen. Soft pink, blue and yellow flowers sit against a deep earthy ground, creating a rhythmic frame around the mirror. Each individual shape is cut, placed and sewn by expert Khayameya artisans in Old Cairo, using their remarkable skill in appliqué and textile work. A simple oak frame adds warmth and gives structure to the softness of the linen. The result sits somewhere between a mirror and a piece of textile art — decorative enough to hold a wall on its own, but easy to live with. Rooted in the visual language of Coptic textiles, the Lotus Mirror brings an ancient tradition into the home in a distinctly contemporary way.
